Standard Grade - RMed - Gladiator

Q. Through the director's cinematic's techniques show how we are given a full picture of Maximus.
Introduction
--------------
Gladiator, by Ridely Scott is a film which contains the character, Maximus who is aRoman soldier who becmes a Gladiator in order to defeat an evil ruler, the Emperor Commodus, in order to bring democracy back to Rome.
Paragraph 1

Soldier who is a family man - + Mise-en-scene - relaxed homelife+ Mise-en-scene - tanding in the community - respected man+ Sound - relaxed and soundtrack+ equalibrium

Battle starts where the Roman wins, thanks to Maximus' skill as a warrior.
+ Cinematograpy - close to the action; extreme long shots to give you an idea of the scale of the battle+ Editing - fast-pace and slow-motion to show his strength+ Sound - battle sounds

Maximus' success leads the current emperor to reward him by nominating himto be the next emeperor - this upsets Commodus who was next to lead Rome
+ Mise-en-scene: tent suggests secrecy; lighting is low-key - conspiracy and plotting

Commodus kills the current Emperor and hopes to remove Maximus as the next in linefor the throne through arms.

Paragraph 5

Dramatic irony is used when we hear that Maximus is being summoned to meet with CommodusMaximus is taken to a camp., but escapes in order to save his family - but they have been slaughtered.
+ Sound - (music ...motif)+ Cinematography - pull/zoom out to show two graves and him standing there. We can suggestthat - since he is at his lowest - he will return in bloody fashion to wreak revenge.

Commodus wishes to fight Maximus, whom he thought was dead and is defeated by Maximus. Removal of the helmet reveals his true identity.
Mise-en-scene - being stabbed by his own dagger represents how his treachery finally catches up with him. Maximus remains the true gladiator and the rightful emperor.
